AREA GIRLS HOCKEY: Eggena's overtime goal gives Lightning Schwan Cup title

MINNEAPOLIS — Kaylyn Eggena netted the game-winning goal in overtime on assists from Mariah Read and Morgan Demars to propel the Northern Lakes Lightning past International Falls 3-2 in the Schwan Cup Green Division championship game Saturday.

Kat Jensen blocked 24 of the 26 shots she faced for the Lightning.

International Falls opened the scoring in the second period before Alex Palm netted two scores for Northern Lakes.

Courtney Kittock and Sam Henrichs each added assists for the Lightning.

BLAINE — Morgan Zeise and Samantha Killian each scored for Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek as the Blue Devils fell to Eveleth-Gilbert 4-2 in Saturday’s fifth-place game of the Schwan Cup White Division.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 2-0 in the second period but failed to hold off the Golden Bears as they rallied for four straight goals in the final period.

Zara Einerwold and Hailey Maas each recorded assists while Angela Hanson kicked away 18 shots for the Blue Devils, who lost their fifth straight game.
