MONTICELLO — Kelly Pearson tallied 11 points to lead the Staples-Motley Cardinals past Monticello 53-46 for the championship of the Monticello Tournament Saturday night.
Pearson was the only Cardinal to reach double figures.
Staples-Motley improved to 9-3 overall while Monticello fell to 10-2. The loss snapped the Magic’s 9-game win streak.
“It was a good test. We had four days off over Christmas break before we had to come back and play three straight games,” Staples-Motley coach Arden Beachy said.
