Area Girls Hockey: Northern Lakes advances to championship game

BLAINE — Mariah Reed netted the game-winning goal at 13:51 of the third period to propel the Northern Lakes Lightning past St. Francis 3-2 in the semifinal round of the Green Division of the Schwan Cup Friday.

Alex Palm opened the game with a goal in the first period for the Lightning and Kaylyn Eggena followed with a goal in the second period.

Megan Snyder, Courtney Kittock, and Mikaela Florey each notched assists for Northern Lakes while Kat Jensen kicked away 20 of the 22 shots she faced.

The Lightning will square off against International Falls Saturday for the Schwan Cup championship.

BLAINE — Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek suffered its fourth straight loss with a 6-0 defeat to Moose Lake in Friday’s consolation semifinal of the White Division of the Schwan Cup.

Moose Lake’s Jessica Bird scored two goals and assisted on another.
