AREA BOYS BASKETBALL: Jacobs' 21 points spark Rangers past Gobblers

AITKIN — Riley Jacobs’ game-high 21 points helped the Crosby-Ironton Rangers defeat Aitkin 55-44 in a non-conference game Monday night.

The Rangers built a 9-point first-half lead, and increased it in the second half. Caleb Baker finished with 11 points, and Will Goodwin added 10 for C-I.

Ryan Anderson tallied 17 points and Nathan Ehnstrom 11 for the Gobblers.

MENAHGA — Colton Borders led the Staples-Motley Cardinals with 19 points in a 78-64 non-conference victory over the Menahga Braves Monday,

Jalen Busker followed with 18 points and Kyle Jansson added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for Staples-Motley.

Brian Huber and Seth Auger each scored 10 points as the Cardinals improved to 3-2.

VERNDALE — Dallas Ehrmantraut scored 27 points and the Verndale Pirates held off the charging Eagle Valley Rebels 77-73 in the first round of the Verndale tournament Monday night.

The Pirates, who have won five straight since a season-opening loss, led by 17 at the half. Eagle Valley sliced the deficit to one before Verndale prevailed.

Marcos Gomez added 15 points and Josh Gilb 12 as Verndale advanced to Tuesday’s championship game against Browerville.

Logan Riedel and Luke Mock combined to score 58 points for the Rebels.
