Flyers roll past Fergus

LITTLE FALLS — The Little Falls Flyers handed head coach Tony Couture his 300th career win with a 5-1 victory over the Fergus Falls Otters in a Section 6-1A matchup Friday.

Ben Newman registered a hat trick. He scored twice on power plays and once short-handed. Taylor Drager opened the scoring with an even-strength, first-period goal and Austin Bjorge scored short handed for the final goal.

The defending Section 6-1A champion Flyers are unbeaten at 4-0 and have outscored their opponents 19-3.

Goalie Michael Stumpf registered 28 saves as both teams put 29 shots on goal. After a season-opening shutout against Hibbing, Stumpf has allowed only single goals in the Flyers last three games.

WADENA — Mitchell Swanson had two goals and an assist in the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 4-3 overtime loss to Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato in a non-conference game Thursday.

Cory McManigle made 34 saves in net for the Wolverines, who were outshot 38-29.
