FERGUS FALLS — A 75-70 loss to the Minnesota State Fergus Falls Spartans has dropped the Central Lakes College Raiders’ record to 0-3 for only the second time in coach Jim Russell’s 15-year tenure at the school.
The Raiders last were 0-3 during the 2000-01 season.
Kevin Kuefler finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Raiders. Brandon Davis added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Raiders, who shot 44 percent (29-66) from the field but made only 3 of 17 threes and 9 of 22 free throws.
“Our team chemistry is starting to come together,” Russell said. “The guys are starting to understand their roles a little bit better. If we make a couple more shots we would be 3-0. The games are close.
“We’re still getting the feel of all the guys and trying to figure out who does what the best. It’s a big learning curve for us right now.”
Fergus Falls held a 49-44 edge on the boards and shot 39 percent (27-69) from the field, making 8 of 28 threes (28.6 percent).
Shane Bosek led the Spartans with 21 points on 8 of 17 shooting and added nine rebounds. Jason Nelson scored 15 points, Boomer Blossom added nine points, a team-high 11 rebounds and had five assists. Bee Pee Pajibo had 10 points and five offensive rebounds and Rapheal Cabannis pulled down nine rebounds.
The Raiders will try to avert their first 0-4 start since 2002-03 when they host the Concordia College of Moorhead junior varsity at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
