The Willmar Broncos and Duluth Stampede will join the Midwest Premier Football League in 2013.
Their addition will bring the number of teams in the MPFL to eight.
The West Division will include the Brainerd Lumberjacks, Willmar, Twin Cities Rhinos and St. Cloud Renegades.
East Division teams will be the Minnesota Sting, Twin Cities Titans, Northern Terror and Duluth.
Lumberjacks coach J.J.. Kern said all Lumberjacks games will be webcast live in 2013.
“As a team and league, that’s really exciting,” Kern said. “We’re growing, as far as talent, as a business, fans, everything in the league. We’re excited about a lot of upgrades. We hope to use this to get more Lumberjacks signed at the paid level.”
Kern said, as an example, Lumberjacks kicker Josiah Powell has signed with the Wyoming Indoor Football League. Powell will be one of four former Lumberjacks who will be inducted into the team’s hall of fame next season. In addition to Powell, Tony Martin (currently an undefeated mixed martial arts fighter), Mike Foy of Brainerd and Pete Ryan of Nisswa will be inducted.
In addition, Kern said the goal is to have all teams’ games webcast live in the near future.
“That will help teams with preparation, it will help the entire league build and grow,” he said.
Kern also added that in an effort to make the league more fan-friendly ‘We’re going to hold players and coaches to a higher standard. Officials will be graded to try and keep better control of certain things, like player conduct. We want to have more strict policies to help with the league’s credibility and conduct.”
