Allison Kosobud of Brainerd and Abby Palmer of Pequot Lakes are two of Minnesota’s state finalists for the 2012 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.
Kosobud and Palmer were among 20 of Minnesota scholar-athletes selected as state finalists. The 20 finalists are now in the running to become the state winner, which would then be in the running to become a national winner.
Of 45,000 seniors who applied for the honor nationwide, 496 are from Minnesota. Finalists are selected for their hard work and dedication through their achievements in athletics, academics and community/school leadership.
On Nov. 5, one male and one female finalist from each state will be named state winners. Of the state winners, 12 will be chosen as national finalists and will compete for the national title Dec. 7 in New York. National finalists will be featured on ESPN and will receive gold medals and $2,000 for their high schools.
The male and female national winner will receive a crystal Wendy’s High School Heisman Trophy and a $500 gift certificate to Wendy’s. In addition, Wendy’s will donate $10,000 to each winner’s high school.
National winners will also be recognized during the collegiate Heisman Trophy broadcast Dec. 8 on ESPN.
