The Brainerd Warriors freshmen team defeated Grand Rapids 34-8 Tuesday.
Running back Mitch Rahn capped off Brainerd’s opening drive with a score and Riley Fab kicked the point after.
After Grand Rapids went ahead 8-7, Allen Jevning ran 40 yards for a Brainerd TD.
Highlights for Brainerd’s defense in the first half included CJ Wohl blocking a punt and Chris Pederson recovering. Pederson forced a fumble and Arron Martin recovered. And, Martin intercepted a screen pass.
Brainerd put up scores from Pederson through the air and Kyler Walczak on the ground. Walczak caught a 2-point conversion pass and Fabian added another PAT to bring the first-half score to 28-8 for Brainerd.
Warriors linebacker Mat Malloy finished with three sacks, joined on one by Martin. Dallon Saiko recovered a muffed punt and Kolt Herron recovered a loose kickoff following a Josh Howieson quarterback sneak for a TD.
Brainerd plays its last game Tuesday at Alexandria.
