The Brainerd Warrior sophomore football team defeated the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles 29-14 Thursday at Adamson Field.
Brainerd took the opening kickoff and eventually scored on a 15-yard run by Maga Gadji. Cole DeRosier ran in the 2-point conversion.
St. Cloud answered on the next series with a 55-yard touchdown.
At the end of the first quarter, St. Cloud threw an interception to Isaiah Stewart for one of three turnovers. That led to Cole DeRosier scoring from 7 yards out. Zach Winger kicked the extra point.
DeRosier scored again in the second quarter with Winger kicking the extra point. The half ended with the Warriors leading 22-6.
Brainerd scored in the fourth quarter when Evan Brecht threw a 12-yard pass to Quinn McElfresh and Winger kicked the extra point.
The Eagles scored with six minutes to go, on a 55-yard run.
Defensively, Jaquon Cogshell intercepted two passes and returned them deep into Eagles territory. Ted Nelson chased down and tackled the Eagles’ punter, who was trying to retrieve a poor snap.
The Warriors (4-1) play at St. Michael-Albertville next Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
