Victory League Baseball: Devils, Lakers win Divisions

FORT RIPLEY — After dropping the first game of its double elimination matchup with Fort Ripley, The St. Mathais Devils captured the North Division championship Sunday with a 10-5 victory over the Rebels.

FORT RIPLEY — The Fort Ripley Rebles kept their playoff hopes alive by beating the St. Mathais Devils 4-1 in the first game of Sunday’s double elimination North Division championship.

Lastrup 10, Buckman 0

LASTRUP — The top-seeded and unbeaten Lastrup Lakers stayed that way Sunday with a seven-inning, 10-0 victory over the Buckman Billygoats in the East Division championship.

Fort Ripley 5,

Nisswa 4

NISSWA — Logan Kalis went 3-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs and collected the win with two innings of relief as Fort Ripley edged Nisswa 5-4 in 11 innings during Saturday’s North Division elimination game.

Kalis struck out two and allowed two hits in his relief appearance for the win.

Ray Austin doubled in the game-winning run for the Rebels, who had lost both regular season matchups with Nisswa. Rob Veith drove in a run and stole a base and Rhett Williamson was 1-3 with a double and two sacrifices.

Luke Schumer’s two-run double gave Nisswa an early 2-0 lead, but Schumer, who was the starting pitcher, couldn’t hold it. He did pitch all 11 innings allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks. He struck out eight.

Brett Kramer started for Fort Ripley. He went nine innings allowing four runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out nine.

Nisswa’s Mark Germain was 2-5 with a run.

Nisswa is now locked into the No. 2 seed for the division and will play the East Division No. 1 seed Saturday in the Regional tournament at the Pierz Legion park

Buckman 2, Harding 1

HARDING — Jeremy Monson allowed only one run off seven hits and helped himself with a solo home run to lead the No. 4 seeded Buckman Billygoats over the No. 2 seeding Harding Dinosaurs in Saturday’s East Division elimination game.

Monson struck out two and walked won and Joe Kahl drove in Buckman’s other run to advance to them to Sunday’s final. Cory Egan and Travis Kahl each notched a double for the Billygoats.

Harding’s Mitch Dorn was tagged with the loss. He went the distance and allowed just two runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out 10.

Eric Hanneken was 2-4 with an RBI for Harding.

The loss eliminated Harding from the playoffs.
