AMATEUR BASEBALL: Herbst singles home winning run for Miners

CROSBY — Lance Herbst singled home Reed Olander with the winning run with no outs in the 11th as the Cuyuna Range Miners took their only lead of the game on their final swing and defeated the St. Mathias Devils 6-5 in a Victory League game Sunday.

Zach Heidmann slugged a 3-run homer in the top of the first for the Devils.

Olander, Herbst, Kylan Hill and Logan McElfresh each had two hits for the Miners.

Blake Thiesse was 3-5 with a double for the Devils.

Randall 8, Fort Ripley 7

FORT RIPLEY — Joe Tuholsky, Noah Czech and Chad Stadum contributed three hits each as the Randall Cubs registered an 8-7 victory against the Fort Ripley Rebels Sunday.

They supported the 11-inning workhorse performance of Dusty Parker, who went all 11 innings with six strikeouts and three walks.

The Cubs scored the eventual winning run in the top of the 11th on a wild pitch.

For the Rebels, Ray Austin hit a solo home run and Brett Kramer tripled and drove in three runs.

Nisswa 13, Upsala 3

UPSALA — The Nisswa Lightning blasted five home runs and finished a tripleheader weekend with a 13-3 win against Upsala Sunday.

The Lightning received two home runs from Tyler Wittwer, who homered in every weekend game. Bronson Shepherd’s seventh-inning grand slam capped a 6-run inning. Jeremiah Piepkorn and Jason Roepke also homered for the Lightning.

Lincoln Messner worked seven innings to get the win, allowing three runs on six hits.

Harding 6, Buckman 3

BUCKMAN — Paul Preimesberger hit a solo home run, Curt Caughey had three hits and winning pitcher Mitch Dorn struck out 14 as the Harding Dinosaurs beat the Buckman Billygoats 6-3 Sunday.

Corey Egan, Todd Robinson and Travis Kahl had two hits apiece for the Billygoats.

Lastrup 3, Opole 3

LASTRUP — Scott Janson pitched a 1-hit complete game as the Lastrup Lakers remained the Victory League’s only unbeaten team with a 3-0 shutout of Opole Sunday.

Janson allowed just two baserunners the entire game as he didn’t walk anyone and struck out eight.

Rick Schlieman, Jason Sadlovsky and Dustin Schmaltz each had two hits for the Lakers.

Jake Eichten went the distance for Opole but suffered the loss in a game that took just more than 90 minutes.

Avon 26, Bulldogs 1

PIERZ — Reed Voit hit three home runs and Nate Ronning one as the Avon Lakers battered the Pierz Bulldogs 26-1 in seven innings Sunday.

Taylor Holthaus drove in three runs, scored five and stole three bases for Avon.

The Bulldogs’ only hit was an RBI double by Pete Herman in the fourth.

Brewers 9, St. Stephen 3

ST. STEPHEN — Chuck Boser went 5-5 with two home runs and five RBIs as the Pierz Brewers beat the St. Stephen Steves 9-3 Sunday.

Mike Poser earned the victory, tossing six innings, scattering one run and five hits. Mike Pohlkamp went the final three innings for the save.

Travis Phelps had four hits for the Steves while Neil Thiesen homered.
