Pillager’s Devin Strack and Wadena-Deer Creek’s Logan Meyer earned third-place medals in the Class 1A state meet Friday at Hamline University in St. Paul.
Strack finished third in the triple jump (43-5) and Meyer was third in shot put with a heave of 52-0.25.
In other finals Friday, Pillager’s Cory VanHal was 14th in pole vault.
In the only final involving area girls, Staples-Motley’s Jaelin Beachy finished ninth in long jump and Crosby-Ironton’s Sienna Miller was 15th.
Beachy was the No. 1 qualifier in the girls 100 hurdles prelims with a time of 15.02.
In boys prelims, Pillager’s Wesley DeLong was the top qualifier in the 400 dash and was No. 4 in the 200 dash. Teammate Shane White was the fifth qualifier in the 110 hurdles.
“Wesley really came through in the 4x4,” Pillager coach Jim Bentson said. “The 4x4 just wanted to get in the finals. All the teams are within a second to a second and a half. Shane’s sitting fourth (in the 110s) and set a school record. Wesley had a beautiful day. We’re looking good heading into (Saturday).”
Pequot Lakes was the No. 3 qualifier in the girls 4x200 relay. The Patriots’ defending state champion 4x100 girls relay qualified fourth in the prelims.
