AREA SOFTBALL: Little Falls advances to championship round

ST. CLOUD — Jamie Jenks went 4-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored as the Little Falls Flyers edged the Staples-Motley Cardinals 5-3 during Tuesdays Section 6-2A elimination game.

Alea Cekalla pitched a complete game for Little Falls, allowing no earned runs off of three hits and striking out four.

S-M’s Megan Vetsch was tagged with the loss, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits and striking out three in seven innings.

Brichelle Brummer, Holly Kampa, and Britian Conley each notched a pair of hits for the Flyers, who will play Albany for the section title Thursday.

Kayla Schmieg, Kyann Nyhus and Claire Uhlman had hits for the Cardinals.

ST. CLOUD — Albany defeated Staples-Motley 3-0 in the winners’ bracket of the Section 6-2A playoffs Tuesday.

Little Falls 4,

Ottertail Central 3

ST. CLOUD — Holly Kampa went 2-4 and drove in three runs as Little Falls edged Ottertail Central 4-3 in the losers’ bracket earlier Tuesday.

Chloe Nelson went the distance for the Flyers, allowing two earned runs off of eight hits and striking out five in a complete-game win.

Little Falls scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie. Kampa, Jamie Jenks, and Alayna Kabanuk each singled in the inning; with Kampa’s single scoring two runs.

The Bulldogs responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Nelson closed the door.

Jenks finished 2-3 with two runs scored and Britian Conley had two hits.
