FORT RIPLEY — The Victory League North Division tightened up over the Memorial Day weekend with front-running Fort Ripley getting swept.
After Sunday’s 4-3 ninth-inning loss to St. Mathias, the Rebels suffered another late setback Monday, dropping a 3-2 decision to Nisswa.
With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the ninth, Nisswa loaded the bases with two outs. With the runner at third base breaking for home on the pitch, the umpire called a balk, allowing Adam Hardy to score and make it 3-2.
The Rebels left runners at second and third in the bottom of the ninth.
Luke Schumer tossed three shutout innings in relief of Jason Roepke to get the win.
Logan Kalis, who had two hits, took the complete-game loss for Fort Ripley. He struck out nine and walked four.

St. Mathias got a game-tying squeeze bunt from Cody Stange in the bottom of the ninth that scored Josh Haberman, who had doubled, to tie it 2-2.
In the bottom of the 10th, with runners at second and third and one out, Ryan Thiesse lined out to shallow left field for the second out. When the Cubs tried to double the runner off at second base, the throw got away for an error, allowing the winning run to score.
Brandon Owen got the win with 2 shutout innings of relief. Zach Heidmann, who pitched eight innings, was 2-3 with a double for the Devils.
Kyle Peterschick pitched a complete game for the Cubs, striking out 14. Noah Czech homered for Randall.

CROSBY — In game pushed back later in the afternoon due to wet field conditions, multiple rain and hail events affected Monday’s game between Cuyuna Range and Royalton.
Despite the stop-and-go pace to the game, Royalton’s Matt Gottwalt waited out all the delays and pitched a complete-game 4-hitter as the Riverdogs knocked off the Miners 14-4.
Shawn Lanners provided most of the firepower for Royalton with a 3-run homer and two doubles and five RBIs.
AJ Hartshorn doubled and drove in two runs for Miners.
The loss prevented the Miners from moving into a 3-way tie atop the North Division. Instead, Cuyuna Range is now in the cellar of the 4-team North, although the Miners are only one game out of first.
