HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Gregory pitches Apollo to conference title

ST. CLOUD — Reese Gregory pitched 10 innings as St. Cloud Apollo wrapped up the Central Lakes Conference championship Monday night by sweeping a doubleheader from the Brainerd Warriors.

The Eagles recorded a 6-1 win in the first game, which was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning May 1 by rain and Brainerd trailing 2-1. Gregory, who started the suspended game May 1, finished with eight strikeouts, walked one and gave up six hits.

Brainerd scored its only run in the first inning, getting singles from Blake Thiesse, Drew Sannes and Riley Kline (RBI). Thiesse finished 2-4 and Sannes 2-3.

Sannes, who started the suspended game May 1, went four total innings, allowing five runs, none earned, and two hits. He had three strikeouts, walked five and hit a batter.

Paxton Beadle finished. He gave up one run, unearned, and one hit, with one walk.

Apollo won the nightcap 4-0 as Gregory struck out 10 and walked one in a 2-hitter. Conor Gessell and Mitch McLain singled for the only Warrior hits.

Luke Patron started and went 4.1 innings for Brainerd. He allowed four runs, two earned, and six hits, with one strikeout, four walks, and hit one batter.

Luke Boran finished. In 2.2 innings, he gave up no runs and two hits, with two strikeouts and one walk.

Apollo, which ends the regular season Tuesday against St. Cloud Tech, leads the CLC at 12-1 and is 15-1 overall.

Brainerd (9-4, 11-8), ends the regular season Tuesday at Alexandria.

“Hopefully, we’ll rebound (Tuesday) and play a good game,” Warriors coach Lowell Scearcy said.
