Taz Seibert pitched a 2-hit complete game as the Central Lakes College Raiders blanked Ridgewater 10-0 in the second game of a Southern Division doubleheader Wednesday at the Findorff Athletic Complex.
Seibert, a freshman from Hamburg, walked none and struck out three.
“It was one of our best games all around, pitching and hitting,” said CLC coach Pat Held, who turned 61 Wednesday and is in his 43rd year of coaching. “We had a lot of 2-out hits. We’re starting to do that a little bit more, which is pretty significant.”
The split enabled CLC to even its division record at 3-3.
“We play hard all the time,” Held said. “It’s a pleasure working with them. They rise up to the occasion.
“We’ve been competitive, that was one of our goals. One hit or one play last week and we go 4-0. We’ve had a good little run here in back-to-back doubleheaders, we’ve won three of four games.”
CLC scored five runs in the second inning with two out. Big hit in the uprising was Trevor Woodruff’s 3-run triple.
Derek Pihlaja finished 3-3 with two RBIs, Pete Lucken was 3-4 with two RBIs, Tyler Lenz was 2-3 and Sean Dormanen was 2-4 with an RBI.
Ridgewater won Game One 10-6. Pihlaja was 2-4 with two doubles and Hunter Young was 2-2 with an RBI.
The Raiders trailed 7-5 before scoring a run in the sixth. CLC loaded the bases with one out but the next two batters struck out. Ridgewater iced the game with three runs in the top of the seventh.
“We gave them a lot of opportunities to score,” Held said, “and they took advantage of them. Our three errors led to all kinds of unearned runs.”
