The Upper Iowa University Peacock tennis program and head coach Jacquelyn Doll announced Thursday that Mikinzee Salo of Brainerd High School has committed to continuing her academic and athletic careers at Upper Iowa.
“I am very excited to have Mikinzee become a part of our program,” Upper Iowa coach Jacquelyn Doll said in a news release. “She is an awesome athlete and student and will make a great addition to the team.”
Salo is a six-time varsity letterwinner playing for BHS from seventh grade on and was named to the All-Central Lakes Conference team the last four years. She was captain and team’s most valuable player as a junior and senior.
Salo has played in the Class 2A state tournament as part of the Brainerd team three times and twice individually. As a junior she placed sixth in the doubles tournament.
Last year, she reached the 100-win mark and has posted an overall record of 148-35, an .808 winning percentage.
In the classroom she was named a CLC Scholar Athlete and a National Honor Society Member.
The daughter of Bill and Lisa Salo, Mikinzee will study chemistry at Upper Iowa.
