Offensive linemen Jake Kassulker of Brainerd and Matt Valentine of Little Falls are two of 88 players who will participate in the 39th annual Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game at 1 p.m. June 30 at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
The game will showcase outstanding seniors from the 2011 season. Players and coaches were selected by members of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
Twenty-seven all-state players will participate, including 12 from the 2011 Associated Press All-State First Team, 13 from the AP All-State Second Team and three from the Nine-Man All-State Team. Thirteen players participated in the 2011 Prep Bowl.
One of this year’s participants is Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year Trey Heid (QB, Lakeville North), who will play at Division II Augustana (S.D.)
Also selected were Western Michigan recruit Jonathan Harden (Cretin-Derham Hall); Princeton recruit Matt Arends (Prior Lake); North Dakota recruits Brian Labat (Detroit Lakes), Joe Mollberg (Detroit Lakes) and Taj Rich (Robbinsdale Cooper); North Dakota State recruits Zack Johnson (Eastview), Brett Pierce (Academy of Holy Angels), Zach Riopelle (Warren-Alvarado-Oslo) and Carey Woods (Bemidji); Northern Iowa recruits Tavaughn Blair (Hopkins) and DJ Hebert (Osseo); and South Dakota State recruits Nate Meixell (Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial), Nick Carr (Totino-Grace) and Andy Moritko (Totino-Grace).
Head coaches are Jeff Schlieff of Spring Lake Park (North) and Bill Ihrke of Plainview-Elgin-Millville (South).
Assisting Schlieff will be Matt Walter (Annandale), Dan Essler (New London-Spicer), Troy Hendricks (Bemidji), Jeff Moritko (Totino-Grace), Deryl Ramey (Brainerd) and Chuck Ross (Underwood).
Assisting Ihrke are Andrew Fleischman (Edgerton/Ellsworth), Ken Helland (Le Center), Mike Kesler (Rochester Lourdes), Paul Lemke (Glencoe-Silver Lake), Chad Sexauer (South St. Paul) and Bob Urness (Winona, retired).
Honorary coaches are MFCA Hall of Fame members Pete Herges of Albany with the North and Jim Simser of New Richland-Hartland and Fairmont for the South.
Training camp will be at St. John’s University in Collegeville from June 24-30. The teams will travel to Minneapolis for media day at TCF Bank Stadium on June 27.
