Scott Stanfield no longer has the word “interim” in front of his title as Brainerd Warriors boys basketball coach.
Brainerd High School activities director Charlie Campbell said Wednesday he offered the job to Stanfield, who accepted.
Stanfield guided Brainerd to a 14-13 record this season, its first winning record since 2006-07. Among the wins was Brainerd’s first postseason win since 2000-01.
“This past season coach Stanfield demonstrated to a lot of folks in the Brainerd basketball community, and to the basketball community at large, that he has the knowledge, energy and passion to lead our boys program moving forward,” Campbell said. “The respect level for coach Stanfield has only been solidified among the players, coaching staff and parent community during this interim season.
“He’s ready to get to work.”
Reached at the state tournament Friday, Stanfield said, “It was fun this year. It will be nice to continue what we started with the group of kids we have coming back, and we’ll see where we end up.
“I’m excited about it, (assistant) coach (Jeff) Ramey is excited about it, we just hope to continue what we started.”
