Area Girls Basketball: Patriots eliminate Flyers

PEQUOT LAKES — Megan Hogen scored 18 points for the third-seeded Pequot Lakes Patriots as they defeated the sixth-seeded Bagley Flyers 63-40 in the opening round of the Section 8-2A playoffs Thursday.

Mattie Lueck added 15 points followed by Kayla Miller’s 12 for the 16-11 Patriots.

PINE RIVER — No. 2 Pine River-Backus won for the fourth straight time with a 66-45 victory over No. 7 Onamia in the East Subsection 5-1A quarterfinals Thursday.

Tatum Sheley led all scorers with 29 points followed by Autumn Ackerman’s 13.

The Tigers shot 48 percent from the field to win for the 10th time in their last 11 games.

The Cardinals held the Thunder to just 15 points in the second half, and shot 52 percent from the field.

It was the third win of the season over the Gobblers for Rush City which swept the season series with Aitkin 55-53 Dec. 2 and 63-42 Jan. 20.
