Brainerd High School graduate Jared Anderson competed in the Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend for the University of Minnesota men’s swimming team at the University of Iowa.
Anderson’s highest finish was sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.56 seconds That time currently ranks him 24th in the nation. Anderson will have to wait until early March to see if he is invited to the NCAA championships, which will be held in Seattle in late March.
Anderson also swam the 200 breaststroke and placed 10th. His time was a lifetime-best 1:58.04.
He also competed on the 200 medley relay that finished seventh.
The Gophers finished in fourth place behind Michigan, Ohio State and Indiana.
On Sunday, Anderson swam in a qualifying meet where he met the Olympic qualifying time in the 200 breaststroke.
He is now qualified to swim the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke events at the Olympic Trials in June.
