Area Boys Hockey: Lelwica's goal sparks Lightning

ST. CLOUD — Jonah Lelwica broke a 2-2 tie in the third period to score what proved to be the winning goal in the Northern Lakes Lightning’s 5-2 win over the Detroit Lakes Lakers in the second round of the Granite City Classic Wednesday.

Goals by Connor Chambers and Aspen Florey gave the Lightning a 2-0 lead before the Lakers scored twice to knot the score heading into the second period.

Ben Moe followed Lelwica with an insurance goal in the third and Kegan Couture put the puck into an empty net to complete the scoring.

The Lightning outshot the Lakers 36-29 with goalie Joey Bergquist making 27 saves.

LITTLE FALLS — The Little Falls Flyers outshot the Willmar Cardinals 38-9 en route to a 3-1 victory in the second round of the Little Falls tournament Wednesday.

Scoring for the Flyers were Ben Newman, Luke Majerle and Austin Bjorge. Joey Hanowski was credited with a pair of assists.

Mike Stumpf had eight saves in net for the Flyers.
