Area Boys Basketball: Holm's three-pointer gives PR-B victory

NEVIS — Nathan Holm’s go-ahead 3-pointer with 30 seconds left gave the Pine River-Backus Tigers their first lead of the game.

Holm then sealed the win with two free throws as the Tigers rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Nevis 54-51 in a Northland Conference game Tuesday night. Holm finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Beau Howard led Pine River-Backus in scoring with 24 points.

Pine River-Backus trailed 27-18 at halftime, before outscoring Nevis 36-24 in the second half.

Jaron Brezinsky and Dean Lynn each totaled 12 points and Lynn grabbed 10 rebounds for the Gobblers. Peter Zasmeta scored 10 and also swiped five steals from the Panthers.

James Kveton also finished in double figures with 12 points and hit three shots from behind the arc for the Pirates.

The Pirates shot 40 percent from the field and allowed just 36-percent shooting by the Rebels. Eagle Valley went to the free-throw line 41 times and made only 21.
