Members of the Nisswa Northwest Biathlon Club competed in a three-race series that ended Monday at Mt. Itasca in Coleraine.
In Saturday’s Sprint race, Jenna Ruzich, Baxter, won the 7.5-kilometer Junior Women’s class, and was the third female under age 19, even though she had a difficult shooting day, missing 4, 3 in 30:47.
In the Youth Men’s 7.5km sprint, Ty Hadrits, Brainerd, was eighth, missing 4, 2 in 26:53. Zean Baker, Nisswa, was ninth after missing a penalty loop and receiving a 2-minute penalty, shooting 4, 3 with a final time of 27:31.
Sunday’s Pursuit race started the competitors at 30-second intervals but in the order they finished Saturday. In the 10km Junior Women’s class, Ruzich finished first and was also the third female under age 19 for the second day, shooting 3, 3, 2, 2 in 46:18.
In the 10km Youth Men’s class, Baker finished fifth, shooting 2, 2, 1, 3 in 37:23, which was 14 seconds behind National Guard team member Jacob Dahlberg of Ely. Hadrits finished seventh, shooting 2, 1, 2, 3 in 39:12.
Ruzich and Hadrits will participate in the Youth and Junior U.S. Team Trials Dec. 28-30 at Anchorage, Alaska. The team to be selected will consist of four Youth Men and four Youth Women, plus Junior Men and Women and will compete in Finland in February.
Brainerd 4x4 hockey deadline Friday
Friday is the deadline to register for the 4x4 Sea Lions youth hockey league.
The league is open to boys and girls ages 16-18. Players must form their own teams. Cost to register per team is $100. Games are played on Tuesday nights at Bane Park starting in January.
Teams may have eight players on the roster. Four players are on the ice during each shift. No goaltenders are allowed.

Gregory Park rink opens Wednesday
The Brainerd outdoor skating rink at Gregory Park will open at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
All other Brainerd skating rinks will open on a day by day basis. Mill Avenue and Bane Park rinks are not yet ready for skating.
Victory League meeting Jan. 20
The Victory League’s first meeting of 2012 is scheduled Jan. 20 upstairs at the Red Bull Bar in Little Falls.
