The Brainerd Elks conducted its 39th annual Elks Hoop Shoot on Saturday at Forestview Middle School in Baxter for youths ages 8-13.
Students from approximately a 30-mile radius of Brainerd participated during in-school free-throw contests. Winners from 19 area schools were sent to Baxter to compete in the Brainerd Elks Hoop Shoot.
There were 74 participants Saturday. More than 4,500 area boys and girls participated in their schools to reach this point.
The top three places in each age division:
Girls: 1st, Mariah Beavers, Eagle View Elementary; 2nd, Stephanie McDowell, Riverside Elementary; 3rd, Kaitlyn Tibbetts, Garfield Elementary
Boys: First, Michael Kuehn, Garfield; 2nd, Drew Shaw, Riverside; 3rd, Hunter Gjovik, Pillager
Girls: 1st, Amber Lindsay, Riverside; 2nd, Ramsey Moe, Eagle View; 3rd, Karmen Moore, Pine River-Backus
Boys: 1st: Owen Seidl, Eagle View; 2nd, Peyton Henkensiefken, Lowell; 3rd: Brady Raph, PR-B
Girls: 1st, Salina Mattinas, Forestview; 2nd, Kylee Heurung, Forestview; 3rd, Sam Littman, Pequot Lakes
Boys: 1st, Mike Russell, Forestview; 2nd, Henry Raph, PR-B; 3rd, Will Peabody, Forestview.
First-place finishers in each division go on to compete at the Elks Central District Hoop Shoot at Lake Region Christian School in Baxter on Jan. 28. The six winners from the Central District will go on to state, regional and national competition. National champions names will be inscribed on the Elks Hoop Shoot Plaque at the Basketball Hall of Fame.
