ROCHESTER — The Brainerd Lunkers broke open a 3-3 tie in the ninth to charge to a 8-3 victory over the Rochester Honkers Thursday night.
The Lunkers scored five runs in the ninth on a combination of singles, poor pitching and errors by Rochester.
Brainerd broke open the game when Dan Olinger was hit by a pitch, then stole second. Kye Winter and Tommy Reyes both walked. Jon Crist was hit by a pitch, with Olinger scoring from third.
Ryan Abrahamson was hit by a pitch and Winter scored. Tye Wampler gained first on an error by the shortstop, scoring Reyes. Hillsinger singled, scoring Crist and Abrahamson for five runs.
Hillsinger was also the hero in the early innings, slapping two singles, a stolen base and two runs scored.
Lunkers starting pitcher Charlie Henderson pitched six strong innings, surrendering only two runs.
The Honkers scored their first two runs on two singles and a double in the third.
Rochester then tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when Brainerd gave up a walk, a passed ball, a wild pitch and a double.
