AREA SOFTBALL: Aitkin end regular season with win over Proctor

AITKIN — Steph Monsey went 3-3 with a double and drove in two runs as the Aitkin Gobblers defeated the Proctor Rails 7-1 in Friday’s non-conference match-up. 

 

Kaitlin Larson added a double, going 2-3, while Jana Kangas and Mikaela Michaletz each collected two hits for the Gobblers in their final regular-season game.

Pierz 9, Pine City 3

PINE CITY — Megan Boser finished 2-4 with a home run, and notched a pair of runs and RBIs during the No. 6-seeded Pierz Pioneers’ 9-3 victory over the No. 3 Pine City Dragons in Friday’s East Subsection 6-2A quarterfinals.

Katelyn Fuhrman picked up the win for the Pioneers and collected a double.

PR-B, Pillager game suspended

PILLAGER — The non-conference game between Pine River-Backus and the Pillager Huskies was called in the top of the third because of rain.

No. 3 seed Pillager and No. 4 seed PR-B host Subsection 6-1A quarterfinal games 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

 

Overall: PRB 13-3, Pil 11-7. Next: No. 6 West Central at No. 3 Pillager in South Subsection 6-1A quarterfinals 4:30 p.m. Tuesday; No. 5 Frazee at No. 4 Pine River-Backus in North Subsection 6-1A quarterfinals 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Mora 14, Little Falls 5

MORA — The No. 7 seeded Little Falls Flyers season come to an end with a 14-5 loss at the hands of the No. 2 seeded Mora Mustangs in the East Subsection 6-2A quarterfinals Friday.

Makayla Jorgensen went 3-4 for the Flyers while Paige Beseman and Brichelle Brummer each finished 2-4.

Beseman, a senior, concluded her career as the school’s all-time leader in hits (102) and hits for a season with 32.
