COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — After clocking the second-fastest 1500-meter time in the country, Air Force senior Justin Tyner was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Co-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

It is the second conference award of Tyner's career.

With an Academy record time of 3:42.51, the Brainerd High School graduate won the premier section of the 1500-meter run Saturday at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. His winning time is the fastest in the Mountain West Conference to date and ranks second in the nation.

In his first race of the outdoor season, the Baxter, Minn., native shaved over one second off of his previous program standard of 3:44.05, which was originally set at last year's Sun Angel Classic. He also improved the program's Senior Class Record by nearly two seconds.

Tyner shared this week's men's award with Leif Arrenhius of BYU.

The Falcons will travel to California this weekend for the Mt. SAC Relays and the Beach Invitational.
