DETROIT LAKES — Staples-Motley’s Nick Forsberg won a playoff with four other golfers on the first extra hole and captured medalist honors with a 79 Wednesday in the season-opening Detroit Lakes Invite at Wildflower at Fair Hills.
Forsberg’s score helped the Cardinals to third place with a 331. Zach Israelson shot 83, Michael Strain 84 and Trent Hagenson 85 to round out the top four for S-M, which returns its top six golfers from 2010.
“(79) was a pretty good score for the conditions,” S-M coach Glen Hasselberg said. “It was tough. The wind was out of the north-northwest at about 25-30 mph.”
Wadena-Deer Creek’s Bryan Silvers was one of three golfers who tied for second with 81s. Tyler Fix added an 86 for the Wolverines, who finished 10th.
