MINNEAPOLIS - Bradyn Watson's two individual firsts and his work in the relays led the Brainerd Warriors to first in the Tiger Division of the University of Minnesota Invite Saturday at the U of M Aquatic Center.
Watson won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.32 and then the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.55. Both times were season bests for the senior, who also helped Brainerd's 200 medley relay of Josh McKeag, Justin Kuglin and Sam Dellacecca to second. Brainerd's 200 free relay of Justin Warling, Adam Warren, Trent Anderson and Watson placed ninth.
Tyler Schneider secured two runner up finishes in the 200 and 500 free events. Schneider's time of 1:55.76 in the 200 and 5:18.47 in the 500 were both season bests. Brainerd showed its depth in the distance events as Andrew Solseth placed seventh and Adam Warren 10th in the 200 free. Solseth was sixth and Nick Goll 10th in the 500.
Britton Murrey dove to a second place score of 222.95. McKeag grabbed a second in the 100 backstroke and a third in the 100 butterfly. He along with Dellacecca, Schneider and Kuglin swam Brainerd to a second place finish in the 400 free relay.
"It was a good showing by our team as we had quite a few season best swims," said Warrior head coach John Zemke. "The kids had a nice day and they responded well after swimming Thursday night. It was a good overall team effort. Almost every kid that swam scored points and that helps as we go into a tough stretch of our schedule with road events Tuesday and Thursday.
"The best thing about this event is we really found some nice surprises for our relays. We got to see who we can line up together for our section True Team meet. We got some nice surprises from guys in the sprint events that we haven't seen from before."
