Rubin headlines boxing card
Brainerd's Nate Rubin will box Sergio Garcia of Fergus Falls in one of the main events on a Golden Gloves Boxing card that begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday the Wadena Armory.
Rubin is the defending Upper Midwest 132-pound champion.
The other featured bout will match Wadena's DeWayne Steward and Shane Kern of Detroit Lakes at 165 pounds.
Twelve bouts are scheduled with Wadena hosting boxers from Brainerd, Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes, Leech Lake, Willmar and Duluth.
Outdoor skating rinks to open this weekend
Brainerd outdoor skating rinks and warming houses will open this weekend.
They will open at 4 p.m. Friday at Gregory Park, 5 p.m. Friday at Bane Park and 2 p.m. Saturday at Mill Avenue Park.
Brainerd Parks and Recreation asks anyone who has used ice skates that are in good condition to donate them to children who don't have skates or can't afford them. Skates may be dropped off at the parks and recreation office at Lum Park.
