Fish still to be had through the ice

The snow has definitely made lake travel a little more tricky. Remember if you are traveling off the beaten path to watch out for ice chunks and drifted areas from fish houses, as they are very hidden now.

Ernies has a road plowed from Squaw Point to Wilson Bay. Trucks only. The crappie bite continues on the Mission and Cullen chains, Blackhoof and Sylvan lakes. The walleyes are still out there to be found, with a few being caught on Gull and Round lakes. Golden shiners on tip-ups and glow red buckshots have been working well.

A lot of area lakes have been producing some nice tulibees, which can make for a fun afternoon of fishing. Try 30-40 feet of water with a rattle spoon tipped with a bunch of waxies.

People traveling out to the reefs on Lake of the Woods are still getting into some nice saugers and walleyes. With a lot of controversy about Mille Lacs slots, better get out there for some of those big eyes now.

Good Fishin’.
