Winter fishing is in full swing now — well not the snow, just the ice.
Gull Lake is still putting out walleyes in 18-25 feet on shiners, with most of the lake reporting 12 inches of ice. We do have a road out of Ernies but caution is still advised.
Round Lake is still hot with some reports of big fish being caught. The crappie bite is still going good on South Long, Blackhoof, Rice and Upper Gull lakes in 25-30 feet.
Red Lake is still worth the trip, lots of limits on either set lines or blue/glow buckshot spoons. Lake of the Woods is allowing vehicle travel four miles and there is a great sauger/walleye bite in 31 feet on gold or glow Red Macho minnows tipped with a fathead.
Mille Lacs Lake is starting to allow vehicles, with fish being caught from Garrison Reef to the Mud Flats. A lot of big fish, not so much on the keepers.
Hole-in-the-Day Bay ice is looking great for the Extravaganza, averaging 12-plus inches of ice.
