■ Ice, fishing improves

With last weekends rain getting rid of some of our snow, ice conditions are improving.

Lower South Long Lake is producing a good number of crappies. Rice Lake has also been putting out a decent number of panfish, scud bugs tipped with euro-larvae has been working well. Round Lake has had a great walleye bite, not alot of size but alot of numbers, a buckshot tipped with a minnow head has been the ticket. Gull Lake has some fishable ice and walleyes are being found in 15-20 feet. Mille Lacs has had some walleyes, northerns and nice crappies being caught, cove, wahkon and isle bay’s are some of the areas to check out. Lake of the Woods continues to get better everyday.

The resorts continue to move out deeper and vehicle travel won’t be far away. With most lakes ranging from 4-10 inches of ice, safety is still a factor.

Hopefully everyone gets out fishing over the holiday weekend, so be safe and have a Merry Christmas.

Good Fishin...
