From turkey time to a time to fish
Today (Thursday) is the last day of school for our kids and I got to see the teachers at Nisswa School sing “goodbye” to the kids as the buses departed. It’s sad for some and I’m sure joyous for others.
Thursday also marked another ending and I haven’t decided if I am sad or joyous — the ending of the 2012 spring turkey season. I haven’t totally given up, but it’s not likely that I will make it out before the end of the day.
This is the latest I have hunted into the season and now I know why: The birds that are still roaming around have graduated to the next grade and these late-season birds are about as educated as can be.
I had one golden opportunity with my bow and arrow but only took feathers and another chance that was spoiled by Tommy busting me while I went to full draw.
All I can say about hunting late-season turkeys (this year) is that it wasn’t easy. If I had a gun I would have been done, but with the bow it was no-go.
Time to fish.
