CROSBY — The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Patrol is hosting a free volunteer training course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 21 at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center.
The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Patrol will assist bikers with first aid, directions and overall support on the trail. Volunteers will be certified in CPR, trained in first aid and will receive basic bike repair and trail etiquette instruction.
“Our role is to get out there and ride and help people out along the way,” said Darrell Dwire, director of the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Patrol. “We are stewards of the trails.”
Dwire, a paramedic at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (CRMC), is also a member of the national ski patrol and is a certified patrol instructor. He, along with members of CRMC’s ambulance staff, will provide the training. CRMC also is providing First Aid supplies and equipment to patrol members.
While the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Patrol includes members of the CRMC ambulance crew, professional medical experience is not required to volunteer.
Representatives from the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Patrol are encouraged to ride the trails often and attend special events at the trails in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area.
