The first fish house of the season appeared Wednesday on North Long Lake.
Area anglers are cautioned not to travel on newly formed ice until it is safe.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources notes, "There is no such thing as 100 percent safe ice."

Steve says he shot this picture with a 720 mm lens so everything looks closer together than you would see it normally - thats probably why you don't recognize it.
He was standing on the berm on the lakeshore right off 371 North next to that worn old orange fishing shack.

Got it now. Ivans would be just to right of picture. I was thinking it was
the points between 371 bay & big part. Cattails threw me off there. Pretty
shallow where house is.

that is north long lake, it's on the south side of 371 bay, you can see the south point in the background... i know this because it is mine and my fiance's spear house... which is different that a regular fish house as most know, it is alot lighter, as most of you might think the ice is thin it is actually 6 inches out where that house is, plenty safe! but we are not "dumb" as some of you may have commented, we're just smart enough on to know where to go, where the ice is safe and where it is not... and early ice is the best time to catch your limits! FISH ON!!

and just to let notme357 know... we pay taxes just like every other red blooded american, and because of high taxes we do not share the luxery that you might in going out to eat or throwing down loads of money at the grocery store to feed ourselves, so what do we do? We fish and we hunt, putting food in our mouths and enjoying every minute of it!

Alice, Ill be straight with ya being an EMT, and fire rescue, its not smart and when you think you got it sometimes [filtered word] happens. I agree you are american and can dk what you and you pay taxes, but the [filtered word] part is there maybe a firefight...er or poluce officer or someone else that doesnt get to go home to their kids and family because or this [filtered word] that people do. You can delete me as a friend or do whatever you want or say. But I do not believe that being a [filtered word] about this is a real good idea either. But I suppose your an american and can do what you want. Someday when you have kids and a family maybe you will understand what is really far and what is really not. I will say that we choose what we do for a living and its a firemans job to save you when you fall in. haha... not enough ice quite yet on the big part, very thin layer, give it some more cold nights and she'll get there, it was making ice like crazy last night though, popping to beat hell... can't wait to get our 8x20 out there... i should say our secondary home, that's catching walleyes in comfort haha good luck to ya be safe!
