Openings remain for several firearms safety classes in the Brainerd area. Students must be 11 years of age before the class starting date.
The first area session is scheduled Sept. 6, 8, 13, 15, 20 and 22 at the American Legion, 708 Front St., Brainerd. Classes begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m., although students are asked to arrive at 5:45 p.m. Sept. 6 to complete registration forms. The $10 registration fee also is due Sept. 6 and covers beverages for students. Field day is scheduled at 9 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds.
Those interested must preregister by calling instructor Cal White at 829-7582. Class size is limited to 25 students.
Another session in Brainerd also is scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday, starting Sept. 8, from 6-8:30 p.m. at VFW Post 1647, Brainerd. Field day is Sept. 24. Preregister by calling the VFW at 829-6393. Class size is limited to 20 students.
A session also is scheduled Wednesday’s — starting at 6 p.m. — from Sept. 14-Oct. 19 at the Eagles Club in Brainerd. Preregister by calling Paul Laughton at 829-7439 or the Eagles Club at 829-4216.
Openings also remain for a session running from Sept. 15-Oct. 1 at the Mille Lacs Energy Cooperative in Aitkin. Classes start at 6:30 p.m. each day. Field day is scheduled at 8 a.m. Oct. 1. Call Linda Weimer at (218) 927-8242 to register.
Upon successful completion of the courses, students receive a temporary certificate that allows the bearer to purchase a hunting license in Minnesota and other states where certification is required.
