Vox Pop-April 17

Incompetence

The commentary on end of the month hunger is a rather complete disaster and an excuse showing that parents that receive food stamps are totally incapable of planning their grocery needs for a month between free checks. Has our society gotten to the point where the nanny state will have to do your food budget and nutritional budget for you and then go shopping for you and deliver it for you? That is the most unbelievable I think I have ever read. It’s so sad that America has reached a point where it can’t do anything anymore for itself. Unbelievable.

People live in foreclosed houses

When some of you are walking around looking at foreclosed properties, remember there are people living in these houses. It’s not alright to be walking around the yard and it’s not alright to be poking your nose into their sheds or garages. I have never seen such rude behavior from people. And do not knock on the door and ask if you can see the inside of the house.

Wolf hunt

The DNR has limited the wolf hunt during the deer hunter time to only 400 wolves. With deer guts out in the woods, it will attract wolves and bait them. Hunters will shoot as many wolves as they can. The DNR will have no control over the wolf hunt. Hunters will shoot many more wolves and let them lay in the woods. This is a moral crime to shoot wolves. They have a right to live the same as any animal. Stop the wolf hunt.

Netting on Mille Lacs Lake

The netting on Mille Lacs Lake that goes on every spring is a disgrace. All those walleyes not having a chance to reproduce, the lake is in danger and the DNR still allows this to go on. Not to mention, I’ve watched many videos of them taking northerns and muskies from their gill nets and throwing them back to float away and die. This is sickening.

Mowing weekly

Hey northeast Brainerd, it is that time of year again to check your lawn mowers to see if it works so lawns can be mowed weekly this summer. This also includes picking your weeds and raking your lawn. I find it frustrating to take pride in my yard when my neighbors mow their lawn every other week. Remember the basic rule I wrote last year in Vox Pop, if your lawn is higher than your hand, you waited too long.

Where’s Vox Pop?

I haven’t seen Vox Pox in the paper for the last week. I thought it was supposed to be in Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays but there hasn’t been any.

Editor’s note: Vox Pop is now posted Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays on www.brainerddispatch.com only. Readers will no longer see the column on the pages of the Brainerd Dispatch newspaper.

Wants Vox Pop back

Get rid of the police blotter and bring back Vox Pop.

Remove your garage sale sign

Garage sales are fun, but please remember to take your signs down after having a sale. It’s kind of annoying following the garage sale “that leads to nowhere.”

Vox Pop, voice of the people, is posted Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Dispatch website only. Submissions are limited to 100 words. To phone in a comment, call (218) 855-5888 and leave a message. To e-mail a comment, write to voxpop@brainerddispatch.com. To mail a comment, send it to the Dispatch at P.O. Ignorance is bliss.

Below is a link to a book that may help you to educate yourself in just why that may be. Generational poverty is real. I vote that instead of criticizing and shaming that already stuggling culture, we try to break the cycle. Enjoy.

wolf hunting and mowing

Wolf hunt...so its only immoral to hunt wolves? There are limits on everything we hunt and you know all the limits are not followed for anything hunted. People shot wolves when they couldn't and people will take more than they are supposed to. Unfortunately not everyone who hunts should.

Mowing...It isn't just Northeast. I see ridiculously long lawns all over Brainerd.

I find it amazing that people

I find it amazing that people only seem to complain about hunting the "pretty" animals. Notice in the anti-wolf hunting commercials they show the puppies playing and never show a pack of wolves disemboweling a cow and killing every last fox, coyote, racoon, deer etc.

I personally can't wait to make a wolf skin rug!

Well lazy ways make lazy

Well lazy ways make lazy people. The government wants to restrict what you can eat anyway, instead of increasing the food stamp program why dont we find a way to increase jobs that can help increase us getting back on our own 2 feet?
