Vox Pop-Feb. 9

What’s the excuse?

I read the Brainerd City Council report in the Dispatch and it notes one council member was absent. Further into the article, it talks about a previous meeting and the same council member was absent. I note in a lot of local government articles, members were absent, Brainerd Council, Crow Wing Commissioners. These people get paid to represent you and vote on issues. What is there excuse? It would seem fitting if they miss two meetings in a year, they are terminated from their position and get someone new!

Broken snowglobes need fixing

I’m thoroughly new to the area and I’m looking desperately for someone who fixes snow globes. I have two. I have a girlfriend who has one and her daughter has one. If anybody knows somebody who fixes snow globes, please post a message in Vox Pop.

Editor’s note: A story about a man who repairs snow globes was printed in the American Profile magazine. His name is Dick Heibel and he is from Northfield. He can be reached at (507) 645-4571.

Thank God for MinnesotaCare

I just wanted to respond to the Vox Pop person who mentioned something about child support and MinnesotaCare and how the taxpayers pay for MinnesotaCare. Well, I am a person on MinnesotaCare. I have a cancer. I’m a taxpayer and I work every week. But if it wasn’t for MinnesotaCare, we would have lost everything by now. I thank God for MinnesotaCare.

Faith on your sleeve

Just commenting on the sign on 210 going east in Brainerd for Journey North. To the people complaining about the sign and how horrible it is, evidently you wear your faith on your shirt sleeve because you’re going to talk about changing churches. You’ll find something wrong there and do the same thing again. You really have no faith where your faith belongs.

Thank you, young man

I’m so thankful for kind people. I was shopping for some friends of mine who are ill and I happened to drop some money out of my coat pocket. A wonderful young man said, “I think you just dropped something out of your pocket.” He picked up the money and gave it back to me. That is so nice. This man was honest enough to give it back to me. Thank you, young man, and God bless you.

Get rid of middle man

Since we seem to have an issue with balancing the state budget, maybe we can solve two problems in one by getting rid of the Senate and the House since they don’t seem to want to do the job we elected them to do and make decisions at the capitol, they want to send everything back to the general populace as a Constitutional amendment. I say let’s get rid of the middle man.

New detox?

I’m wondering what is going on with the new detox that was supposed to be open by the first of January in Crow Wing County. I thought the person who got the bid had everything in place to reopen one in a reasonable amount of time. There’s no place for people who need detox in Crow Wing County to go to except jail which is not the place for them.
