What takes so long?
When you call the Brainerd dog catcher, it takes days before they come and they’re dangerous animals. I just don’t understand it. Don’t they get paid? They’re big, dangerous animals and nobody shows up.

If they are that big and dangerous, just shoot them. If you don't have a gun, there are plenty of us in the area that do. If people cannot be responsible for their pets, they do not deserve to have them....and keeping an animal locked on a chain 24/7 is not taking care of them!
Wow.
Really?
It's amazing that so many people keep these big dangerous animals in their homes, alongside their children, as part of their families. How DO they survive the ordeal.
Yes, there are bad dogs, just as there are bad people, but last time I checked, the Brainerd area was not being overrun with packs of wild man-eating canines.
I think the real problem is the author has an irrational fear of dogs.
Here's a suggestion. If you have an unwanted stray in your yard, pick it up and take it to HART and surrender it. Or maybe, you will find that the animal has a tag with a phone number on it and it's owner would be grateful for a call that their beloved pet has been found.
okey dokey you pick it up
If it bites you when you pick it up, especially that 150 pound lab or doberman, it will be my laughter you will be hearing.
If it growls at me, its going to be a bullet between the eyes for that doggie.
I was told
I was told that if you bring an animal into HART you are responsible for the costs of keeping it there.
I just wouldn't tell them who I was.
If you shoot someones dog you
If you shoot someones dog you can expect to be charged with a crime and very likely a lawsuit.
Experience
Fish have you learned from experience?? I know somebody who did a while back.
You get charged....
only if they know who shot it.
No I've never shot anyone's
No I've never shot anyone's dog. I wasn't even going to shoot the big yelllow dog that killed my birds TWICE if I saw it. The owner is always at fault when a dog does something wrong and that's who should be held accountable.
No more dogcatcher
As the economy worsened and cities and counties were looking for things to cut, one of the tops on the list were animal control people--of which they had darn few in the first place.
Don't know where the writer lived but this has been in the dispatch a number of times--there are places where there is NO "dogcatcher" anymore.
You get what you pay for. If you refuse to pay for it, live with the result. If you would be willing to pay, complain to your local officials.
Animal control? ^._.^
If it was truly a viscous animal I wouldn't waste my time calling the "dog catcher". I would be in contact with the appropriate law enforcement agency for the area you live in. If nothing else they may light a big fire under animal control.
Animal Control
I am good friends with the 1...yes 1, animal control officer in the Brainerd Area. Because of budgets several areas in the BLA have cut his services. He works day and night, taking calls at all hours. He has a family he barely sees and he rarely gets vacation. In fact in the 5 or 6 years I have known him I remember him taking a couple sick days off for a surgery and maybe one week of vacation. There are townships etc that he can't help because he has no contract with them, most of the time because they didn't have it in their budget. I can't imagine doing his job alone. I have done ride alongs with him and worked with him. Its a lot of work with little to no reward, yet he's been doing it for many many years. So help out when you can. If you are comfortable, take the animal to HART, thats usually where they are going to end up anyways. This way, if there is a truly viscous animal or someone who is scared of a particular animal he has more time to be able to take care of it.
Kinder then killing,
pick up a used Tipman 98 paintball gun from Air Hobbies, and keep it by the door.. Doggies think twice about coming back when they get blasted with paintballs, and it sends a message back to the owner. They sting, but don't mortally wound..
teehee
150lb doberman? lmao!
not
I'm not putting a pit bull in my pickup!
Dangerous Ice Rescues
I sure hope these people that go out on the dangerous ice to fish and have to be rescued have to pay for the cost of that rescue.
After constant warnings of dangerous ice, they insist on going after a few lousy fish.
But then again maybe it's nature's way of thinning out the dumb ones.
and don't
forget to charge the mountain bike rider that crashes into a tree by crosby forr his rescue and,,, and ,,,
