Too selfish?
To the Vox Pop writer, sorry you are too selfish to see the hard work this man has put into a not so glamorous job, spending literally half his life there so you can get mail. To the Dispatch: Thanks for giving him a shout out. The people who work hard to make a change in everyone’s day are the ones who deserve it the most.
Trickle down where?
When is the so-called trickle down economic theory going to trickle down to me and potentially the rest of Minnesota? How is not taxing the rich enriching me? I don’t see any jobs being created. I don’t see any increase in donations to various social agencies. This is supposedly been supposed to be happening since Reagan by not taxing these people. Don’t think it’s working.
Peace or piece debate
The peace or piece debate continues. Under Carol Rose’s picture on the front page, you do speak your “peace.” You speak your peace, in other words, you speak until you are at peace with what you have said, so when you have said what you wanted to, you are at peace with the words that were spoken.
Houle was unprofessional
I think the one who should be resigning should be Mr. Houle. Very unprofessional with his bickering comment.
Used cellphones
My family and I just recently changed cellphone companies and I have six cellphones I have no use for. Someone told me that there is a program for battered women to get cell phones. Does anyone know the address or phone number to that particular place or what I can do with them?

I don't think we'll be seeing Mr. Houle giving up his $100,000+/yr job any time soon.
pretty sure the bridge wasnt any elected persons fault
It really isnt rocket science. It make be hard for you to understand since you want to blame everything on conservatives and "republicons" but too bad so sad, you are wrong. Keep those thoughts, debt maker...keep spreading the wealth and bankrupting us.
Here is the final verdict..."On November 13, 2008, the NTSB released the findings of its investigation. The primary cause was the under-sized gusset plates, at 0.5 inches thick. Contributing to that design or construction error was the fact that 2 inches of concrete were added to the road surface over the years, increasing the dead load by 20%. Also contributing was the extraordinary weight of construction equipment and material resting on the bridge just above its weakest point at the time of the collapse. That load was estimated at 578,000 pounds consisting of sand, water, and vehicles. The NTSB determined that corrosion was not a significant factor, but that inspectors did not routinely check that safety features were functional.
With that said, where exactly is it the republicans fault?
Let us see,
the state may shut down for lack of money this week. Bridge repair money vetoed twice. I guess we coulda shut down two other times too, unless of course scary was gonna front the money. Do ya think? .... not me! Oh thas right take it from the rich, yup for sure.
Weren't the faulty gussets
Weren't the faulty gussets discovered but left in place?

subjectivity vs objectivity
scaryphallin: when the information is viewed through the warped subjectivity of Oped News, there is no accurate information, just skewed words. Exactly what you would say about Fox News, I suppose. You need to learn how to differentiate between objectivity and propaganda. Of course, as Simon & Garfunkle once said, "A man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest."
You complain about right-wing conservatives' tunnel vision and objectivity; the left is no better, maybe worse. Better join the rest of us in the middle and learn to hit the "[filtered word]" button when you see it.
scary
wrote, "We pay taxes, according to our ability..." Well that is not really so, is it? How many pay nothing in taxes yet get a refund? How many illegals; or as democrats put it, extra votes; earn a paycheck but pay no federal taxes? And as for the bridge, I read your link and tried not to laugh. Maybe if you did a little more research on the subject instead of taking the word of a rag like OEN as gosspel, you might be more informed. But one thing I have noticed about people like you, fish, moss, you don't care what the truth is as long as it is the Republican's fault. Little minds!!
minnhawk
thanks for telling scary exactly what I was thinking
Facts
Witless one. The bridge was inspected annually from 1993 to the present. In 1990, long before Pawlenty, the bridge was deemed "structurally deficient", as were 75,000 other bridges in the US. Damn Pawlenty for not taking care of those as well. It was rated 50 out of 100, but was determined to have met minimum tolerable limits. There was talk of reinforcing the bridge in '06 but was determined later that this may have actually weakened the bridge. Half the bridge was shut down at the time of collapse due to construction. Blaming Pawlenty for not saving the bridge is like blaming the govenor of Missouri for the tornado in Joplin. This was a bridge that had a design flaw and the blame, if any, should rest solely with the MN/DOT. The bridge was to be replaced in 2020 and even if Pawlenty had raised the gas tax, something you would have been howling about, there is nothing to say it would not have happened anyway. Now, your turn to say something stupid and whiny!!!
"...the bridge was deemed
"...the bridge was deemed "structurally deficient", as were 75,000 other bridges in the US."
And despite that the Republicans fight tooth and nail to prevent any revenue increase in highway maintenance.
Try to raise the gas tax $0.05/gal during a period when gas fluctuates $0.20 in a single week and they go nuts.
The sky is falling! they wail.
The country can't afford it! they cry.
Government can't do anything right! they claim.
Meanwhile American infrastructure collapses around us and the tax breaks to the wealth keep flowing upward and out of the country.
