Schools could use plastic trays
In light of Earth Day and cleaning up our environment, I think attention needs to be addressed to the usage of disposable Styrofoam trays for meals in the Brainerd schools. I assume they are expensive, not to mention the extra cost involved with the schools’ garbage use with the waste they are creating. Why not use washable plastic trays? In this economy, wouldn't we be helping our community out by hiring a dishwasher at each school instead?
Editor’s note: Officials at the Brainerd School District’s Food Services Department said Stryofoam food trays are used at specific elementary sites that do not have room for a kitchen where trays could be washed.

Is the food that is delivered to the schools in disposable containers? If not the plastic trays could be collected when they pick the containers up and washed at another location. Or the could be collected when the food is delivered the next day.
Excuses?
Maybe tomuchfun thinks it is perfectly fine to leave his dirty dishes for a day before he washes them (longer on weekends and holidays), but I think everyone else prefers sanitary means to feed our children. I would hate to see tomuchfun's house. Do us all a favor and do not bring any food to potluck dinners.

Do you only have one set of dishes? If the schools had two sets, one clean set could be dropped off when the dirty set was picked up.
I'm not sure how cost/energy efficient this idea would be though, taking gas into account. I'm no school kitchen expert.
I thought the kitchens had
I thought the kitchens had been turned into union offices?
you are not teachers, obviously
Comments made by the typical naysayers just show their ignorance about what goes on in a school. If you haven't been there don't knock it. It seems all you do is look negatively at whatever teachers, the schools, or other offices try to do. I also think they should use plastic trays and quit filling out landfills with "stuff" that will never disappear from the earth during several lifetimes.
