Repair the damage

To the person driving the groomer on Jan 5, 2011 (we don't know who to contact from the Merrifield Marthons): You ran over a mailbox on County Road 3 by the Ossipee Store. This person is in the hospital in Minneapolis dealing with cancer. When we went to pick up the mail that day we found the mail scattered in the ditch, and the post sheared off where the groomer had hit it. The groomer tracks were quite obvious. So, as goodwill, I would think you would be back over and repair the damage you did.

I'll wave at you

Those of you who think the roads are so bad need to realize that this is January in Minnesota. Drive accordingly, not like it is the Fourth of July. You know the roads are icy so leave early, slow down and hang up! If you end up in the ditch I'll wave as I go by.

Assess your reason for being on the road

The Dispatch did a great article on the terrible road conditions and the reason for it. Here's another take. County Road 3 from Merrifield to Brainerd's conditions warrant approximately 40 mph. There's always someone doing 15-20. You're impeding traffic and causing more problems than a speeder. Look in your rearview mirror. If you have 100 or more cars backed up behind you, you're a problem. Assess your reason for being out there. Maybe you should drive real early or better yet hit the road at 8:30 a.m. when the commute to Brainerd is done.

Political correctness will destroy everything

This concerns the classics of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Political correctness should not ruin traditional classics. Political correctness will end up destroying everything in our country and I, for one, won't stand for it.

Soul of America is sleeping

In mental hospitals, group homes and nursing homes, the soul of America has been put to sleep.

You have to pay for great services

I am simply amazed that in a culture, a community and a state that does not want to pay taxes to have any form of better services, people would call in and complain to Vox Pop about the quality of our roads, snow removal and city services. Absolutely ridiculous. If you want to live in a place with great services, you are going to have to pay for them! That is in the form of taxes.

while we are talking about snowmobiles and grooming the Ossipee

area, how about if you guys on sleds slow down and LOOK before you come flying down the County Road 3 ditch south of the Oss Store and hit my driveway at 60+ mph, on a daily basis?

I plow that driveway regularly and it scares the heck out of me to think what you would look like if you hit my snowplow at that speed? And I would have to live with knowing that your stupidity wrecked my plow!

Re: Assess...

As one of the cautious (although not *quite* as cautious as you mention) drivers on what was a completely ice-covered Co. Rd. 3, please accept my invitation to pass right on by me. There are lanes for such an act- feel free to utilize them.

roads and lack of care

I guess I really didn't believe people when they said they were "bad" around the Baxter/Brainerd area... they are horrible!!! Turned off Glory Rd to turn left to the Surgical Center. Ended up fishtailing it. Wasn't going fast. No salt or sand to be seen. Fix it!!

Asking a snowmobiler to stop

Asking a snowmobiler to stop jumping your driveway. LOL!

It's their RIGHT!!!

It's still fairly common to meet blinding snowmobile headlights in the wrong ditch after dark. If they aren't willing to obey the law and show respect for others on that safety issue why would they care if you don't like them jumping your driveway.

FYI, If they hit you while you're plowing your driveway it's YOUR fault according to the law.

The same with ATV'ers thanks to the spineless Crow Wing County commissioners.

Has anyone taken the time to

Has anyone taken the time to find PERSONAL videos and pictures of these dead birds falling in peoples yards? Usually when some strange event takes place, everyone rushes to get the first loaded video of said strange event.

The only video we have seen has been presented by the media (MSM) and no PERSONAL videos have been uploaded. Does anyone find this a bit strange? Have you or anyone you know personally seen flocks of dead birds?

snowmobiler courtesy

you should see how our neighbor on the corner of College Rd and Cypress plows his driveway, 10 ft high to prevent us from going along the side of the rd on our sleds, very rude of him to do..

taxes

Unpublished

Why does it always come to "paying for services" by tax payers.

4 things about the current road conditions:
1) We already pay for snow/ice removal service in the form of MANY TAXES, car registration and licesnse sales.
2)Maybe you should have pretreated the roads as every other county in the 5 state area effected by this mess did.
3)Maybe if you couldnt pretreat, plow before it started to freeze. That would have prevented lots of this mess.
4) How come we couldnt afford having the roads plowed but we CAN AFFORD a $6.9 million roundabout system on college drive that is no necessary?

The weather was much worse to the south of us, yet driving south this weekend, the roads were in beautiful shape, even in the towns and cities.

The city of Brainerd and Crow Wing county really dropped the ball on this one, WAKE UP PEOPLE. Brainerd wasnt the worst of this storm I can tell you that.
