New Year’s Day means changes and as the Brainerd Dispatch greets the new year, there are changes aplenty at 506 James St.
Starting today, Jan. 1, 2014, this newspaper is owned by Forum Communications Co. rather than Morris Communications.
Dispatch employees, with the help of our colleagues at Forum Communications Co., have scrambled to integrate our newspaper into the Forum corporate family, yet most readers will hardly notice any difference at all when they read our website or pick up the newspaper with a cup of coffee in the morning.
The Brainerd Dispatch will continue to remain committed to reporting the news and serving advertisers in the Brainerd lakes area. Our focus will remain local as we strive to reach readers on their preferred media platform, whether it is print, online or iPad app.
Starting in 2014 we will be supported by a Fargo, N.D.-based corporation rather than one that was based in Augusta, Ga. The Forum company owns 36 newspapers in the upper Midwest — mostly small dailies and weeklies. Many of those publications surround us here in Minnesota and they’re ones that are familiar to many Dispatch employees. The Forum properties include the Forum of Fargo, N.D., the Pioneer of Bemidji, The Duluth News-Tribune, the West Central Tribune of Willmar and the Daily Globe of Worthington. These are all Midwestern papers that share interests with the Brainerd Dispatch and it’s likely we’ll be cooperating and supporting each other as members of Forum Communications Co.
It’s an exciting beginning of the year for the Brainerd Dispatch. We value the support and are appreciative of the good wishes we’ve received from readers and advertisers alike.
Happy New Year!
