East Gull Lake’s trails through our beautiful Brainerd lakes area continue to add to the quality of life here. Just ask the walkers and bike riders who have enjoyed “leaf-peeping” this month on the recently completed trail system in the city of East Gull Lake.

Nestled in along the south edge of Gull Lake, East Gull Lake’s approximate eight miles of trails have afforded pedestrians and bikers a safe recreational outlet by creating some separation between them and the high-traffic county roads. The successful trails project drew upon the cooperation of the city, Cass County and the DNR. Built to Americans with Disabilities Act specifications, the trails can be used by people in wheel chairs as well as people training for marathons. The trails are also a great benefit to nearby resorts, providing another activity for guests who might not be particular fans of fishing or golf.

Cass Commissioner Neal Gaalswyk, who has followed the progress of the trail system since his days as an East Gull Lake City Council member is pleased with the outcome.

“It’s a rare day that you drive by and don’t see someone using the trail,” he said.
