If you've ever wondered why the Brainerd Dispatch featured a certain news story or why it didn't print a different story, you might be well-suited to a position on the Dispatch Advisory Board.
The Dispatch is looking for eight people who are interested in the newspaper and who would like the chance to voice their opinions to the publisher and editors. Dispatch officials use the board as a sounding board, for criticism and news tips and sometimes as an informal focus group. The bimonthly luncheons in Brainerd help Dispatch personnel pause and reflect how their product is being perceived by the reading public.
There's no ideological litmus test for potential advisory board members. We're looking for people who are interested in the newspaper and in their communities. In the selection process we're seeking diversity in terms of geography, age, gender and viewpoints. The meetings are collegial and, we hope, informative.
Anyone interested in joining the Dispatch Advisory Board is encouraged to send a brief note telling us about yourself and why you'd like to serve on the board. Please include your home address, e-mail address, and home and work phone numbers. Applications may be sent to Roy Miller, editor, Brainerd Dispatch, Post Office Box 974, Brainerd, MN 56401 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
