Negative comments and behaviors have become a really big issue lately in the media and, in my mind, are being blown way out of proportion.
Our kids had some great teachers and coaches during their years in the Brainerd school system, but they also had teachers and coaches that said things like this to them: “With that SAT score you will be lucky to get a job in a fast food place,” “You ask way to many questions,” “I’ll bet you won’t make it through the season,” “You are really a hot dog,” “You can’t just get the rebound and beat everyone down the floor and score, this is a team game – so pass the ball,” “That shot of yours is terrible.”
The point of this is: Teachers, kids, bosses, fellow employees can all be negative, insulting e – to other people at different times throughout our life or any given day.
We would tell our kids to deal with it, work harder, enjoy the sport/class and realize it might not have had anything to do with you. They might be having a bad day, envious of you, had a fight with their spouse, don’t really like their job, etc…and are just taking it out on you. Remember as the Bible says, “What a person plants he will harvest” Galatians 6-7 and just keep charging ahead because God has a plan for your life and negative comments might just guide you to where God wants you. Remember to always fight the good fight and never, ever give up.” If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8-31.
No matter what someone says to you it’s your choice as to how you will respond/internalize those comments.
