Change of heart
I, for one, believe we have seen something happen in politics that hasn’t happened for a long time. Our government is listening to its people. For way too long it hasn’t mattered what the people want as ego-busting politicians took their own course when it came to running the country. But then along came the threat of another war, to a country that is tired of seeing us stick our noses in places it not only doesn’t belong but also does no good in the long run.
I give credit to our president for having a change of heart and letting diplomacy have a chance. I know that some will say he was weak and has no convictions and use what happened for ill conceived political gain. But the real weakness in this whole thing is those who can only try to make themselves look good, by making someone else look bad, because they have nothing else substantial of their own to offer.
Maybe politics as usual is being transcended by common sense and the will of the people does matter. After all, it’s we the people who have had to foot the bill and suffer the loss of loved ones, in foolish ventures that have done nothing to promote peace in this world but actually inflamed the tensions that did exist. Has the day come when somebody in Congress and the White House has actually listened to us? Time will tell but it does give us a sliver of hope.
